EAT TO BEAT BLOATING...

A bloated stomach can make you feel fat and destroy self-confidence, there is nothing worse than feeling self-conscious about your stomach when you want to wear a fitted outfit let alone a bikini... here's 12 way's how to beat bloating baddies...

1. hold the salt

Water is attracted to sodium so when you eat salty foods, you'll retain more fluid, making you sluggish and puffy. Cutting back on sodium and drinking more water helps bring your body back into balance.

2. say no to spicy foods

Seasonings such as black pepper, chilli powder, hot sauces, onions, garlic, mustard and fresh chillies, can stimulate the release of stomach acid, which can cause irritation.

3. avoid gassy foods

Some foods create more wind in your GI tract. They include beans and pulses, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, onions, peppers and citrus fruits.

4. bin the fizzy drinks

Where do you think all those bubbles end up? They gang up in your belly!

5. don't chew gum

When you chew gum, you swallow air, which gets trapped in your GI tract and causes bloating and belly expansion.

6. take a five-minute post-meal walk

Moving your body helps release air trapped in your GI tract, relieving pressure

7. no more fried foods

Fatty foods, especially the fried variety, are digested more slowly, causing you to feel heavy and bloated.

8. eat slowly

When you eat quickly, you take in large gulps of air, which get trapped in your digestive system causing bloating.

9. intolerant

Bread can be a common cause of bloating, so try removing it from your diet a couple of weeks to see if that helps. With some people, milk or wheat can induce bloating, which means they can be lactose or gluten intolerant. A useful approach is to keep a food diary, noting everything you eat or drink and when bloating troubles you most.

10. stress

Stress triggers hormonal fluctuations that cause your digestive system to slow down, so your last meal may hang around longer in your intestine, causing bloating.

11. lack of fluid

Drinking water and eating 'watery' foods, such as green vegetables and fruit, maintains your body's fluid balance preventing water retention and constipation, which can cause bloating.

12. lack of sleep

Too little sleep disrupts the intricate workings of your nervous system, which controls the rhythmic contractions of your gastrointestinal tract and helps keep things humming along. It's important to get at least seven hours of sleep a night.

Bloating can occur at anytime. It is often worse just before your period, but it can also be caused by a food that is naturally gas-forming or by certain types of foods that your body or bowel is intolerant to or by stress, lack of fluid or lack of sleep.
